High Desert Hospice aspires to honor Veterans in every way possible. One of the ways we have chosen as a hospice to do that is to become a Hospice-Veteran Partner.
Hospice-Veteran Partnerships are coalitions of Department of Veterans Affairs facilities, community hospices, state hospice organizations and other entities who work together to ensure that excellent patient care is readily available for our nation’s veterans and their families.
Hospice-Veteran Partnerships is a national program of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Hospice and Palliative Care Initiative. As a level 2 Hospice-Veteran Partner, High Desert Hospice continually seeks to raise awareness of hospice within the veteran communities to ensure that every veteran is able to obtain excellence in hospice care immediately upon diagnosis of a life-limiting illness.
High Desert Hospice is also committed to on-going development and strengthening of the relationships it has with all VA facilities within its scope of care. High Desert Hospice also assists veterans with applying for benefits that as a veteran they may not be aware of. These additional benefits can significantly help veterans and their families with the financial concerns that often accompany a life-limiting illness.
At High Desert Hospice we give Veterans an opportunity to tell their stories, we respect their service, their feelings, and any suggestions they might have to offer. We thank Veterans for their service to our country and show appreciation to the families of Veterans. We strive to be sincere, caring, compassionate, ready and able to listen to what a Veteran and his or her family member has to share about the situation they are dealing with. We are supportive and non-judgmental and always strive to validate their feelings and concerns. We accept the Veteran as he/she is without judgment. We aim to be patient and listen; knowing that it might take longer for some Veterans to build trust.
